How I write

The issues I follow

Plain words, on purpose

I write the way I talk. Short sentences. No jargon. If a rule or a budget line affects your pay or your health, you should be able to read about it once and understand it.

Start with the worker

Every policy lands on somebody. I start with the person who feels it first — the care worker on a double shift, the retiree choosing between pills and power, the young worker afraid to report an injury.

Two posts a week

Tuesdays and Saturdays. Tuesday pieces usually follow news from the week. Saturday pieces are longer looks at one subject.

If people cannot understand a policy, they cannot argue with it. That is often the point.
