CUPE strike-readiness workshops
September 26 and 27, 2026
CUPE’s Atlantic education program is running bargaining and strike-readiness sessions this month. Preparing for a Successful Strike runs September 26 (9 a.m. to 4 p.m.) and September 27 (9 a.m. to noon), covering the four pillars of a well-run strike: administration, strike pay, communications and picket schedules. Picket Captain Training follows September 27, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sessions are also booked at the CUPE Sydney Area office, 280 Kenikala Crescent, Membertou. PSAC Halifax Young Workers Committee beach cleanup

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day

A statutory holiday honouring residential school Survivors, their families and communities, and remembering the children who never came home. NSNU offices are closed. Communities across Nova Scotia hold walks, ceremonies and gatherings, so check locally closer to the date.

NSTU retirement seminars

The NSTU is offering two-day retirement seminars in Amherst, Yarmouth, Sydney, Port Hawkesbury, Halifax, Kentville and Bridgewater. They are open to teachers within five years of retirement. PSAC Grievance Handling, Halifax and Sydney

Training for new shop stewards handling first-level grievances. The Halifax-area session is at 172 Garland Avenue in Dartmouth, and the Sydney session is at the Holiday Inn, 300 Esplanade. The application deadline is October 16.
